It is a hard pill to swallow as a pet owner, but “pet issue” is something that needs to be taken seriously when putting your house on the real estate market. The fact is, home buyers do not like pets at all, your pets can pose some serious concerns to your potential buyers.
You’ll be surprised how many people are allergic to dogs and cats. Some of them so serious they gag and have difficulty breathing in a room with pets or even just a trace of pets. And of course, with pets comes the issue of pet stains and pet odors which a big turn off to your potential buyers.
Here is my tip for all pet owners before your first buyer step in and or while you house is on the market:
- Relocate your pets for the time being if possible.
- Remove pet odors.
- Pack up all cages, carriers, chew toys or anything that will suggest that a pet is living in your house.
- Remove pet photos in the fridge, counter tops and walls.
- Clean thoroughly. Shampoo and vacuum your rugs, runners and carpets. Remove all stains and keep the house smelling fresh and pet free.
You will be wasting the time and money that you invested in staging if you cannot address the issues with your pets, we have seen it many times over . Pets can ruin and sabotage a potential offer.
It is best to relocate your pets temporarily while your house is on the market.
