Shedding Some Light on Brightening Up Your Home
May 6, 2015“Light” and “bright” are key words that describe what most home buyers are looking for their next home. After all, nobody wants to be in a gloomy and a dark room.
To achieve a well-lit room, you need natural light, layered with other light sources. Together, it creates a positive feel to any room which is important when showcasing your home for sale.
BOOST NATURAL LIGHT WITH THESE TIPS
1. Make sure your windows are clean
Washing your windows will avoid streaking especially in the winter. Dust that accumulated, and Grimes build up can easily block natural light from coming into your home. Hiring professional window washers can make your windows sparkle and your rooms bright.
2. Use lighter fabrics as window covers
If you aren’t getting enough privacy with just the light sheers, use heavier drapes that can be opened and pushed to the side during the day.
3. Get rid of clutter and unnecessary furniture pieces
Plants by the window sill or knick knacks, and other “stuff” can block natural light, leaving the rooms dark and cramped. Get rid of those hanging plants, move furniture pieces (that maybe blocking the window) and remove knickknacks — you will immediately see the room change into a lighter and a brighter space.
4. Use a light wall paint color
The gloss from the paint finish, as well as the lighter hue, will bounce more light into the room and make it appear larger and brighter.
5. Clean all light fixture and light fixture covers
Dust and dirt can accumulate inside the light fixture cover over time. Washing the covers and wiping all dust from light bulbs and light fixture can make a big difference.
6. Maintain Exterior Spaces
Just like furniture against a window can block light, so can untrimmed shrubbery and trees. Overgrown trees and shrubs can easily darken the rooms. Make sure to keep them manicured to get more natural light inside the house.
7. Use mirrors to reflect more light into a room
Not only will the space be brighter, but it will also appear larger.
